Ally Schlegel and Frankie Tagliaferri Tabbed as United Soccer Coaches All-Americans

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Two Penn State Nittany Lions have been honored as All-Americans as announced by the United Soccer Coaches on Thursday. Redshirt sophomore Ally Schlegel was named a first team All-American and Frankie Tagliaferri was honored as a second team All-American by the coaches association.

Both Schlegel and Tagliaferri earn the first All-America honors of their Nittany Lion career.

Schlegel earns the 26th first team All-America honor for the Penn State program from the United Soccer Coaches. Schlegel is the most recent first team All-American since former teammate Kaleigh Riehl was named to the first team in 2018.

The Big Ten Forward of the Year in 2021 and the Big Ten Freshman of the Year in 2019 led the Big Ten in goals each of the last two seasons and led the Big Ten in points in 2019. Schlegel was a semifinalist for the MAC Hermann trophy. She was 10th in the NCAA in goals (11) and 11th in points (28) during the 2021 season.

Schlegel is the most recent Penn State forward to earn first team All-America honors since Maya Hayes was named a first team All-American in both 2011 and 2012.

Tagliaferri is the latest Nittany Lion to earn second team All-American honors since 2019, also Kaleigh Riehl. Tagliaferri led the Big Ten in points (29) was second in goals (10) and assists (9). Her 29 points were tied for ninth in the NCAA.

Tagliaferri is the NCAA active leader in games played (90), eighth in assists (25) and 16th in points (79).

Since 1998, Penn State has had at least one All-American, first, second or third team, from the United Soccer Coaches in every season except for two (2016, 2017).
