Clifford Named CoSIDA First-Team Academic All-District®

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State redshirt senior quarterback Sean Clifford has earned a spot on the CoSIDA 2020-21 Academic All-District® Football Team. Clifford was named a first-team honoree for District 2 and advances to the Academic All-America® ballot, with the results being announced in early July.
 
Clifford currently has a 3.45 grade point average (GPA) and is majoring in journalism at Penn State. The Cincinnati-native is a three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree.
 
Clifford has played in 25 career games for the Nittany Lions, making 20 starts. The redshirt senior has 11 career games with two or more passing touchdowns, eight with three or more and two with four or more, while owning 11 career games with multi-passing touchdown halves and eight games with multi-passing TD quarters. Clifford has thrown for at least 250 passing yards and three passing touchdowns in five career games, has four career touchdown passes of 70 or more yards and has completed 63 career passes of 20 or more yards.
 
The quarterback is one of 11 Penn State players to reach 5,000 yards of total offense and one of 12 quarterbacks to eclipse 4,000 career passing yards. He sits as the current all-time leader at Penn State with a career passing efficiency rating of 146.8, while ranking second in completion percentage (.600), third in yards per attempt (8.2), fourth in touchdown percentage (7.11) and fifth in passing touchdowns (41). Clifford is fifth in school history for 300-yard passing games (3) and tied for seventh for 200-yard games (11).
 
The 2020-21 Academic All-District® Football Team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. First- and second-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in early July.
