UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – With only one spot available to a specialist, former Penn State men's gymnastics great Stephen Nedoroscik has his sights set on making the U.S. Team for the Tokyo Olympics when he competes at the U.S. Olympic Trials in St. Louis this week. Day one of the men's portion of the event is on Thursday at 6 p.m. ET, and the second day is on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. ET.
Both days of the men's Olympic Trials will be available to watch live on TV. Thursday's session is on NBC Sports Network. Saturday's session is on the Olympic Channel at 3 p.m. ET before it moves to NBC at 5 p.m. ET. Main feeds and apparatus feeds will also stream online at NBCOlympics.com.
Nedoroscik is coming off a national title on pommel horse at the U.S. Championships, where he scored 15.1 on each of his routines. Those were the best two scores on any apparatus at the event.
More good news came for Nedoroscik's chances of making the Olympic Team the same weekend that he competed at the U.S. Championships as Paul Juda finished second all-around at the Pan American Championships, earning the United States an additional spot at the Tokyo Games. That spot is likely to go to a specialist and will be chosen based on who has the best chance to earn Team USA an individual medal.
Nineteen Penn State gymnasts have combined to earn 19 Olympic bids, including 13 gymnasts that competed for Team USA. Former Nittany Lions have also competed for Israel, Puerto Rico, Great Britain and Sweden. The most recent Olympians from Penn State men's gymnastics were Felix Aronovich (Israel) and Tommy Ramos (Puerto Rico) in the 2012 London Games. The last Olympian for Team USA from Penn State was Kevin Tan at the 2008 Beijing Games.
Nedoroscik is in his fourth year as a member of the U.S. National Team. He was the 2020 Nissen Emery Award winner as the top senior collegiate gymnast in the nation. He won two national titles on pommel horse and one runner-up finish.
