UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The 2020-21 Penn State women's volleyball team earned the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award for the second consecutive season, as announced by the AVCA on Monday.
The award, initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.30 on a 4.0 scale or 4.10 on a 5.0 scale.
The award factors in the GPA of all players that played at least one set during the 2019 season. The Lions averaged a 3.49 GPA during the fall and spring semesters combined.
Penn State's academic success came during yet another run to the NCAA Tournament, the 40-consecutive year the Lions competed in the event. They advanced to the Regional Semifinal and were ranked No. 12 in the final AVCA Coaches Poll.
