James Allen Wins New York State Amateur Championship

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. – Penn State men's golf rising sophomore James Allen put together an incredible back nine that included five birdies to win the New York State Amateur Championship at Schuyler Meadows Club on Thursday.

Allen, a Scarsdale, N.Y. native, finished the four-round tournament at 8-under, 280, including a 6-under, 66, in his final round. Allen sat one stroke behind 2019 New York State Amateur Champion Ben Reichert heading into the back nine of the last round of the 36-hole final before he birdied five of the next six holes to take sole possession of first place.

After not playing a practice round, Allen shot a 2-under, 70, in the first round of the New York State Amateur. He carded an even 72 in both the second and third rounds, before firing his stellar 6-under, 66, in the fourth and final round.

Allen returns to Penn State this month to begin his sophomore season. He played three rounds during his freshman campaign, tying for fourth at the 2021 Rutherford Intercollegiate.
