Opens in a new window United Soccer Coaches Release

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Penn State men's soccer student-athletes Danny Bloyou and Pierre Reedy were two of 44 players named to the 2021 MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List as announced by United Soccer Coaches and the Missouri Athletic Club (MAC) Thursday afternoon.

The Hermann Trophy, presented annually by the Missouri Athletic Club, is the nation's highest individual honor recognizing the nation's National Player of the Year. Division I coaches who are members of the United Soccer Coaches College Services program vote for the award.

Bloyou and Reedy are first-time members to the watch list as both return to the pitch in 2021 after an impressive 2020-21 season where they earned Third Team All-America status from United Soccer Coaches as well as first team All-Big Ten honors.

Bloyou, a senior forward from Accra, Ghana, paced the Nittany Lions with 18 points on a team-high eight goals and two assists last season. Reedy, a redshirt senior from Kutztown, Pennsylvania, had a breakout year after battling injuries in previous seasons with a career-high 14 points on a career-high five goals and four assists.

Fifteen players are named Hermann Trophy semifinalists on Nov. 30 following United Soccer Coaches Division I All-America voting after the regular season. A final round of voting names three finalists on Dec. 15. The 2021 winner will be announced on Jan. 7, 2022 in a ceremony at the historic Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis, Mo.

Now-junior Liam Butts was on the watch list last season. Recent program alumnus Aaron Molloy was named a MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalist in 2019, joining Corey Hertzog (2010) and Ricardo Villar (2000, 2001). Jim Stamatis is Penn State's lone winner of the Hermann Trophy in 1979 when the award was also in conjunction with National Player of the Year honors.

Bloyou, Reedy and the rest of the Nittany Lions kick off the 2021 campaign Thursday evening against George Mason from Jeffrey Field at 7 p.m.
