UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State men's golf student-athletes Jimmy Meyers, Lou Olsakovsky and Patrick Sheehan have been selected for Big Ten Preseason Honors, as announced by the conference office Tuesday morning.
Meyers enters his junior season this fall and was a 2021 Academic All-Big Ten honoree. The best finish of his sophomore season came at the 2021 Rutherford Intercollegiate. Meyers heads into his senior season after putting together a strong summer that included qualifying for and competing in the U.S. Amateur Championship.
Olsakovsky returns in 2021-22 to utilize the extra year of eligibility granted by the NCAA due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The Upper St. Clair, Pa. native is coming off a strong 2021 spring season that saw him earn All-Northeast honors and play in all five of Penn State's spring tournaments. He led the way for the Nittany Lions at the 2021 Kepler Intercollegiate. Olsakovsky is a two-time GCAA All-America Scholar and two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree.
Sheehan enters his junior season on the heels of a stellar summer in which he qualified for both the U.S Amateur Championship and Pennsylvania Open, in addition to a number of other strong finishes including second place at the Pennsylvania State Amateur at Merion Golf Club. The Doylestown, Pa. native was Penn State's highest finisher at the 2021 Rutherford Intercollegiate with a career-low 5-under, 208, that was good for second place.
The Nittany Lions open fall action this weekend when Penn State heads to the Turning Stone Tiger Invitational on Sunday and Monday in Verona, N.Y.
