DURHAM, N.C. – The Penn State men's golf team wrapped up competition at Duke's Rod Myers Invitational Sunday as junior Patrick Sheehan tied for third in the field and the Nittany Lions finished eighth in the team race.
Sheehan carded a career-low 207 to finish in a three-way tie for third place. The junior carded a 1-under, 71, in Sunday's 18 after firing a pair of 68s in Saturday's two rounds. After his tie for fifth place at last weekend's Turning Stone Tiger Intercollegiate, Sheehan has now secured two top-five finishes in the first two events of his junior campaign.
Freshman Morgan Lofland moved up five spots in the final round to place 20th overall. Lofland fired a 2-under, 70, in Sunday's action to finish the 54-hole tournament a 1-under, 215. He carded six birdies Sunday, four of which came in his final seven holes.
Graduate student Lou Olsakovsky moved up 12 spots Sunday as he shot 2-over, 74, in the final 18. He finished tied for 45th overall with an 8-over, 224. Junior Jimmy Meyers finished tied for 69th with a 15-over, 231, after a 5-over, 77, final round Sunday. Junior Ben Smith placed 78th with a 23-over, 239, after a 6-over, 78, score in Sunday's 18 holes.
Penn State finished tournament in eighth place with a team score of 13-over, 877. No. 4 North Carolina took home first place at 27-under, while N.C. State finished second at 24-under.
The Nittany Lions return to action Sept. 27-28 at Wake Forest's Old Town Club Collegiate.
