UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Former Penn State great Stephen Nedoroscik secured a spot on the USA World Championship team with his recent performance at the World Championship Trials in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Nedoroscik finished first on pommel horse at the World Trials, totaling a score of 30.300 on his two routines. He also had the best individual routine with a 15.500 on the second day of competition. That score would have been good enough for second at the Tokyo Olympics.
The 2021 Artistic Gymnastics World Championships will take place October 18-24 in Kitakyushu, Japan. As is customary for World Championships that directly follow an Olympic Games, this year's event will not feature a team competition. Athletes will vie solely for individual championships, including the all-around and apparatus titles.
"We're very proud of Stephen's efforts at the World Championship Trials in Colorado Springs," Penn State head coach Randy Jepson said. "He has had limited training due to injury and illness but relied heavily on his experience to get the win. I am excited for him to go head to head with the world's best."
Nedoroscik will compete at the World Championships for the first time in his illustrious career. He has excelled at the national level with a U.S. title in 2021 in addition to a silver medal in 2019. He won two NCAA national titles and was the national runner-up once while competing for the Nittany Lions.
Nedoroscik graduated with a degree in electrical engineering in 2020. He still trains at Penn State's Gene Wettstone Gymnastics Complex.
