CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Junior Mathilde Delavallade (Royan, France) finished just five-strokes off the lead and in a tie for fifth at the Boston College Intercollegiate. Delavallade used a 2-under, 70, to climb 11 spots in the final round on Tuesday afternoon.
"My drives were better today and that set me up with a comfortable yardage for my approach shots," commented Delavallade. "My putting was also pretty solid, and I was able to make some Birdies."
Delavallade had six birdies to her name in the final round, doubling her total from the previous two rounds combined finishing the tournament 5-over, 221. The junior collects her second top-five finish of the season in the first three tournaments and fifth of her career.
As a team, the Nittany Lions finished fourth in the 15-team field at 39-over, 903, after carding a 14-over, 302, in the final round. Yale captured the championship with a score of 20-over, 884, three strokes clear of the host Eagles in second place at 23-over, 887. Boston University finished four-strokes clear of the Nittany Lions in third place and Columbia (40-over) rounded out the top-five.
Freshman Drew Nienhaus (St. Louis, Mo.) also had a solid day for Penn State climbing nine spots to register her best collegiate finish of T16th with an 11-over, 227, score. After opening the morning with a double-bogey, Nienhaus finished the final 17 holes at even-par carding a 2-over, 74.
Senior Sarah Willis (Eaton, Ohio) and sophomore Victoria Tip-Aucha (Vienna, Va.) rounded out the countable scores for Penn State with rounds of 6-over and 8-over, respectively, while junior Isha Dhruva (Katy, Texas) finished the day at 10-over.
Willis used a stretch of 2-under over the final six holes to join Nienhaus in a tie for 16th position at 11-over for the week while Dhruva slipped to T26th after her final round.
Playing as an individual, sophomore Maria Arizaga (Samborondon, Ecuador) fired a final round 4-over, 76, and finished the week 35th at 17-over.
Penn State will take the next week off before returning to the links at the Princess Anne Invitational hosted by Old Dominion on October 3-5.
