Penn State Secures Second-Lowest 54-Hole Tournament Score in Program History

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Penn State men's golf team finished competition at Wake Forest's Old Town Club Collegiate Tuesday afternoon with a 12-under, 828 total, marking the second-lowest 54-hole tournament score in program history.
 
The Nittany Lions' 828 ranks as the second lowest score in Penn State history behind a score of 820 at the 2002 James Madison Invitational. Penn State's strong showing was bolstered by Monday afternoon's school-record low 266 second round.
 
The Nittany Lions placed seventh in the 14-team field in North Carolina after carding a 4-over, 284, in the third round Tuesday and finishing at 12-under, 284. Host and #17-ranked Wake Forest finished atop the field.
 
Junior Patrick Sheehan shined once again, securing his third-straight top-10 finish. Sheehan shot a 1-under, 69, in Tuesday's final round to finish the tournament at 6-under, 204, and in a tie for ninth place. The Doylestown, Pa. native has finished in the top 10 of all three of this season's tournaments after placing tied for fifth at the Turning Stone Tiger Invitational and tied for third at the Rod Myers Invitational.
 
Freshman Morgan Lofland finished tied for 19th. He finished the tournament at 3-under, 207, after a 4-over, 74, third round.
 
Graduate student Lou Olsakovsky moved up two spots on the final day with an even 70 in the third round to finished tied for 35th at an even 210. Sophomore James Allen carded a 1-over, 71, in the third round and placed tied for 44th at 1-over, 211. Sophomore Jud Langille wrapped up his Penn State debut at 9-over, 219, to finish tied for 70th.
 
The Nittany Lions return to action on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 4-5, at West Virginia's Health Plan Mountaineer Invitational.
