Dotson Named a Walter Camp Player of the Year Semifinalist

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State senior wide receiver Jahan Dotson has been named a semifinalist for The Walter Camp Football Foundation's 2021 Player of the Year award. Dotson in one of 15 semifinalists and the only wide receiver on the list.
 
The 15-player list includes eight quarterbacks, four defensive players, two running backs and one wide receiver. Thirteen different schools and six conferences are represented on the list.
 
The Walter Camp Player of the Year is voted on by the 130 Football Bowl Subdivision head coaches and sports information directors.   A list of five finalists will be announced on Thursday, December 2, and the winner announced on ESPN's College Football Awards Show on Thursday, December 9.
 
Jahan Dotson

  • Named a second-team midseason All-American by the Athletic.
  • Began the 2021 campaign on the Biletnikoff and Maxwell Award watch lists. He's also on the Paul Hornung Award watch list for the most versatile player in the country.
  • Dotson is one of two FBS receivers, and the only Power Five receiver, with at least 70 receptions, 930 yards and nine touchdowns in their first nine games of the season, joining Western Kentucky's Jerreth Sterns (104, 1,276, 11).
  • Dotson is the first Big Ten receiver with at least 70 receptions, 930 yards and nine touchdowns in the first nine games of a season since Northwestern's Austin Carr (70, 1,010, 10) in 2016.
  • The senior has a reception in 38-straight games, dating back to October 20, 2018 against Indiana, which ranks fifth among current FBS players.
  • Dotson has five or more receptions in 11-straight games, dating back to the Michigan State game in 2020, the longest streak among current FBS players.
  • Dotson is the only Nittany Lion in program history to catch at least five passes in 11 consecutive games.
  • A native of Nazareth, Pa., Dotson has at least one 20-yard reception in 26 career games, including each of the first five games this year.
  • According to PFF, since 2020, Dotson leads all FBS receivers in 20+ yard touchdowns with 12.
  • He had a touchdown reception in each of the first five games this season and since 2000, is the only Penn State receiver with at least six touchdown receptions in the first five games of the season. He's done so in both 2020 and 2021.
  • Dotson leads the Big Ten in 2021 in receptions (71, t-6th nationally), and is second in receiving scores (9, 6th), receiving yards (932, 11th) and receiving yards per game (103.6, 11th).
  • The 71 grabs are currently the fourth-most in a season at Penn State, while his 932 yards are ninth and nine touchdown receptions rank sixth.
  • Dotson had a touchdown reception in six-straight games dating back to the Illinois game in 2020, the longest streak in program history. He reached the end zone in seven consecutive games, including an 81-yard punt return against Michigan State in 2020.
  • Dotson has six career receiving touchdowns of 60 or more yards (86 at Maryland, 2021; 75 and 70 vs. Illinois 2020; 68 vs. Iowa 2020; 60 at Indiana 2020; 72 vs. Purdue, 2019) and 10 receiving touchdown of 40+ yards.
  • Dotson's 15.38 yards per reception in his career is first among current Power Five receivers (minimum 160 catches) and third among FBS receivers.
  • Dotson's 10 career 100-yard receiving games ties him with Allen Robinson (2011-13) for second all-time at Penn State.
  • Only two current FBS Power Five receivers have more career 100-yard receiving games than Dotson's 10, Purdue's David Bell (15) and Texas Tech's Kaylon Geiger (11).
  • Dotson recorded a career-high and program-record 242 receiving yards at Maryland, bettering Deon Butler's 216 yards vs. Northwestern in 2006.
  • Dotson also tied career highs with 11 receptions and three touchdowns against the Terrapins, his fifth career multi-touchdown game.
  • Dotson is the only Power Five receiver and one of two FBS receivers with 240 yards and three touchdowns in a game this season, joining Northern Illinois' Trayvon Rudolph (14, 309, 3 vs. Kent State).
  • Dotson earned his fourth career game with at least 100 receiving yards and two touchdowns and second career game with at least 100 yards and three touchdowns.
