Penn State Women’s Swimming and Diving Complete Day One of N.C. State Invitational

Raleigh, N.C. – Penn State concluded the first day of competition at the Willis R. Casey Aquatic Center with 14 individual event swims in finals and a fourth-place finish in the medley relay. 
 
At the end of day one, the women are placed sixth overall with 261 points. 
 
Top Swims
Senior Madison Murtagh advanced to finals in the 500 free, setting a season best in of 4:53.00 in this morning's session. In the evening, she swam for 16th place (4:53.75).
 
In the 200 IM, Penn State advanced three swimmers to finals – Senior Sadie Schumann and Sophomores Lizzie Danforth and Abby Henderson. In the C Final Schumann and Danforth placed 19th (2:01.55) and 21st(2:02.33) respectively overall. Henderson swam in the D Final to finish 26th (2:01.91).
 
Ten Nittany Lions competed in the 50 free finals. They were led by sophomores Cat Stanford and Mary Brinker who respectively finished 14th (22.92) and 15th (22.96) in a closely contested B Final. 
 
Top Dives 
Junior Wei Wei led the team in diving. She won the consolation final with a score of 261.45. Senior Sierra Shurts also came fifth in the consolation final (238.60) while freshman Tatum Evans placed eighth (193.70).
 
Nittany Lions Relays
Stanford, Brinker, Abigail Amdor and Ellie Tiskus placed fourth in the 200 free relay in 1:30.66 and dropped over three seconds from their entry time. The team of Marie Schobel, Liv Jack, Madison Ledwith and Amdor also dropped nearly five and a half seconds in the 400 medley relay and finished seventh.
