AGAINST THE BULLDOGS AND BUCKEYES
Penn State's first matchup of the weekend against Minnesota Duluth will be just the second series ever for the Nittany Lions against the Bulldogs. Their first two games against each other were back in the 2017-18 season, with UMD winning via a shutout both times, 1-0 and 3-0, on Sept. 29-30, 2017.
The traditional Big Ten rivalry of PSU vs. OSU has favored the Buckeyes in the all-time series 8-2-0, however the Nittany Lions split the last series with the then No. 6/7 Buckeyes in Columbus. Penn State beat Ohio State 5-1 Jan. 5, 2018, with current PSU captain and then-freshman Natalie Heising notching an assist in the contest.
LAST TIME OUT: AT SYRACUSE
The Nittany Lions earned a split on the road in a tough CHA series at Syracuse Nov. 19-20. Penn State won a defensive thriller in overtime, 1-0, thanks to goaltender Josie Bothun's sixth career shutout and Heising's OT game-winning goal.
Heising's goal was her 62nd career goal, moving her into sole possession of the Penn State program goal-scoring record.
Syracuse got the better of the Nittany Lions in game two with a 6-3 win. Carrie Byrnes, Mallory Uihlein and Lexi Bedier each scored for Penn State.
