University Park, Pa. - The Penn State men's fencing team concluded its first home meet of the season, the Garret Open, today bringing home both silver and bronze medals. Kamar Skeete went 3-1 taking silver in men's saber. In men's foil, Shane Iverson (Basking Ridge, N.J.) brought home silver for the Nittany Lions going 4-1 on Sunday. Devin Tafoya (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) tied for third in epee going 3-1.
Additionally in men's foil, Sebastiano Bicego (Vicenza, Italy) went 2-1 finishing in 7th place. Arwen Borowiak (Tauberbischofsheim, Germany), Aidan Johnson, and Donavyn Martinez (Fresno, Calif.) ended in 9th, 10th, and 12th respectively with a 1-1 record each. Nicholas Prince (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Konner Paik (Norwood, N.J.) each went 0-1 ending in 16th and 20th respectively. Caiden Cannon (Gahanna, Ohio) ended in 23rd, Alejandro Toro (Ambler, Pa.) finished in 25th, and Gavin Hay (Troy, Mich.) ended the day in 29th.
Evan Xu (Sugarland, Texas) finished 2-1 in epee ending in 8th place. Daniel Shifron (Pittsburgh, Pa.), and Jonathan Piskovatskov (Houston, Texas) finished in 12th and 13th respectively ending the day with a 1-1 record. Ryan Griffiths (Fair Lawn, N.J.), Stafford Moosekian (Los Angeles, Calif.) and Mitchel Bekker (Brooklyn, N.Y.) each went 0-1 finishing in 17th, 20th and 23rd respectively. Noe Sitbon-Taylor (Washington, D.C.), Peter Kambeseles (Brooklyn, N.Y.), Nicholas Glaz (Staten Island, N.Y.), and Elias Cole (Chappaqua, N.Y.) ended in 34th, 36th, 37th and 38th respectively.
Clement Perrier (Allauch, France) took the 5th place spot ending 1-1. Nick Zielinski (Prospect Heights, Ill.) and Fernando Chacon (La Paz, Bolivia) ended in 10th and 14th respectively going 0-1. Jeff Basalyga (Saddle River, N.J.) ended in 19th. Samuel Cohen (Kensington, Md.) ended in 25th.
Penn State will next be in action on Sunday, Dec. 5, when it travels to Sacred Heart in Fairfield, Conn., for a dual series with the hosts, NYU, Harvard, Princeton, Vassar and NJIT (m).
