University Park, Pa. - The Penn State Nittany Lion fencing team competed at the Olympic Trials/December NAC event held this weekend in Columbus, Ohio. Action concluded today after four days of competition.
In the men's epee competition, Ryan Griffiths (Fair Lawn, N.J.) finished in 17th with a record of 2-1. Devin Tafoya (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) went 0-1 ending in 46th, and Jonathan Piskovatskov (Houston, Texas) finished out the day in 49th. Peter Kambeseles (Brooklyn, N.Y.) ended in 61st with a 1-1 record. Stafford Moosekian (Los Angeles, Calif.) and Evan Xu (Sugarland, Texas) followed behind in 67th and 173rd respectively.
Shane Iverson (Basking Ridge, N.J.) earned 47th with a 1-1 record this weekend in foil, and Donavyn Martinez (Fresno, Calif.) came shortly behind with the same record in 53rd place.
Kamar Skeete earned fifth place in men's saber with a 4-1 record.
In women's epee, Kateryna Chorniy (Kyiv, Ukraine) came in 13th with a 3-1 record. Jaclyn Khrol ended with a 1-1 record coming in 43rd, and Nirali Igoe finished in 117th with a 0-1 record.
Fencing will return to action Jan. 7-10 in San Jose, Calif. at the NAC Division 1/Junior meet.
