Alyssa Naeher headed to USWNT training camp

CHICAGO, Ill. — Penn State alumna Alyssa Naeher was named to the 25-player roster for the U.S. Women's National Team's annual January training camp that will take place in Austin, Texas from Jan. 19-28.

A two-time Olympian and member of the USWNT since 2013, Naeher will participate in the training camp marking the first action of 2022 for the USWNT. It will also be Naeher's return to USWNT activity after injuring her knee in the 2020 Olympic semifinal.

Prior to her injury, Naeher started five of the six matches in goal for the U.S., including a heroic effort in the quarterfinal match against the Netherlands. Naeher saved three penalty kicks, one in regulation and two in a penalty kick shootout.

Naeher enters the 2022 training camp with 78 appearances and 44 clean sheets in goal for the U.S.

A native of Stratford, CT, Naeher recently completed her sixth season with the Chicago Red Stars.

Captain of the Nittany Lions as a senior, Naeher earned All-America honors at Penn State three times with first-team nods in 2007 and 2008. She was selected as the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year in 2007 and 2009.

The USA's first matches of the year will take place at the 2022 SheBelieves Cup, Presented by Visa, against the Czech Republic (Feb. 17) and New Zealand (Feb. 20) at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, Calif., and Iceland (Feb. 23) at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas.
