UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Four members of head coach Char Morett-Curtiss' Penn State Nittany Lion field hockey team been named Scholars of Distinction by National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA). The honor is awarded to players who have a cumulative grade point average of 3.90 or better through the first semester of the 2021-22 academic year.
Sophomore Gery Schnarrs (Camp Hill, Pa.) tops the list with a perfect 4.0 grade point average through this past fall semester. She is joined by freshman Anouk Knuvers ('s-Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands), who earned a 3.94 in her first semester as a Penn Stater; junior Bree Barraco (Allentown, Pa.) who maintains a 3.93 grade point average; and sophomore Carly Gannon (Havertown, Pa.), who owns a 3.92 GPA
Penn State earned 17 NFHCA National All-Academic Team awards last week with the NFHCA's announcement. Morett-Curtiss' team has had 15 or more National All-Academic honorees in each of the past five seasons and ten or more since 2005.
The Nittany Lions ended the season with a 14-6 overall record, placed second in the Big Ten regular season with a 6-2 mark, advanced to the 2021Big Ten Tournament semifinals and earned a spot in the 2021 NCAA Championship Tournament.
