Women's Volleyball Adds Weatherington, Trammell

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State women's volleyball continued to load up on talent, adding two transfers to the 2022 roster this week. The Nittany Lions received commitments from middle blocker Taylor Trammell, previously at Purdue, and outside hitter Zoe Weatherington, previously at Utah.

Trammell and Weatherington join Kashauna Williams, previously at Long Beach State, to give Penn State a trio of key additions from the transfer portal in a span of two weeks.

Trammell posted some of the best blocking numbers in the country over the past two seasons, averaging 1.49 block over 246 sets. She burst on to the scene as a freshman, earning VolleyballMag.com All-America honorable mention recognition while playing all 84 sets for a Purdue team that advanced to the NCAA Regional Semifinal. She was second in the nation and led the Big Ten with 137 blocks in her first season. Her 1.63 blocks/set average was good enough for fourth in the conference.

"'I've been extremely impressed watching Taylor play in the Big Ten the past two seasons," Penn State head coach Katie Schumacher-Cawley said. "She's a tremendous athlete and a fiery competitor. She is an outstanding young woman who is going to make her mark at Penn State and beyond. Taylor will bring a lot to our team, and I am really looking forward to being able to coach her. I welcome her and all of her family to Penn State."

Weatherington brings her powerful arm to Happy Valley after playing three seasons at Utah. She was an All-Pac 12 honorable mention in 2021 and was named to the Pac 12 All-Freshman Team in 2019. Weatherington has totaled 635 kills (2.45/set) over 259 sets. This past season, she returned from an injury that cost her most of the 2020 campaign and averaged 2.45 kills/set while hitting .265 and playing all 113 sets for a Utah team that advanced to the NCAA Second Round.

"I'm very excited about Zoe. She has had a great career thus far at Utah and she's from a volleyball family being that her mom is a head coach at Charlotte," Schumacher-Cawley said. "I've known her mom Karen for many years, and she is an outstanding person. Zoe is cut from the same cloth as her mom and dad. She's an outstanding young woman who will make a huge impact on our team, in the world, and after her volleyball days are done. I welcome her and all of her family to Penn State."
