Schobel Leads Penn State Swimming & Diving on Day 3 of Big Ten Championships

Madison, Wisc. – Penn State Women's Swimming & Diving completed the second day of individual competition with seven NCAA B standards and two top-ten all-time swims in program history.
 
The Nittany Lions 11 top-24 finishes tie them and Purdue for eighth place with 289 points as the second of four days of competition concludes at the Soderholm Family Aquatic Center in Madison, Wisconsin. 
 
The Swimmers 
Penn State saw success in the 100 backstroke. Senior Marie Schobel led the Nittany Lions' 100 back finalists, earning a sixth-place finish and an NCAA B standard with her time of 52.48. Freshman Molly Carson also impressed in prelims by securing her spot in finals and as Penn State's seventh fastest 100 backstroke swimmer. Her time of 53.29 is an NCAA B standard and a lifetime best. Carson swam to 16th place in finals (53.70) while junior Emma Harvey placed 23rd (54.97).
 
Senior Madison Ledwith placed 14th with an NCAA B standard time of 53.41 in the 100 fly. She led Penn State in the event as freshman Maura Fluehr, junior Emma Harvey and Schobel earned 18th, 21st and 23rd place. Fluehr (53.62) and Harvey's (53.76) times were both NCAA B standards and lifetime bests. 
 
Senior Olivia Jack and graduate student Maddie Cooke earned NCAA B standards in the 100 Breast. Jack finished in 11th with a time of 1:00.68. Her swim ranks her as the 6th fastest overall 100 breastroke swimmer in program history and is a lifetime best. Cooke swam for 20th (1:01.81). 
 
Sophomore Morgan Rinn made her first appearance at Big Ten finals in the 400 IM. She swam for 19th in a time of 4:19.59.
 
In the 200 Free, junior Abbie Amdor swam to 24th place (1:49.01). 
 
The Divers 
Senior Sierra Shurts led Penn State on the boards placing 35th in the 3-meter with a score of 240.65. 
 
The Relay 
Together, Jack, Amdor and sophomores Cat Stanford and Mary Brinker finished seventh in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:30.05.
