Men's Tennis Hosts Cleveland State, Colgate, and Dartmouth this Weekend to Open Home Schedule

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State men's tennis team (0-2) is gearing up to host Cleveland State (0-4) and Colgate (0-0) in a doubleheader matchup on Friday at 1 p.m. ET. They continue their home stand against Dartmouth (2-0) on Sunday at noon ET.

LAST TIME OUT

The Nittany Lions were defeated by Cornell, 4-3, on Jan. 30. The Big Red clinched courts one, two, three, and four to take the match.

Penn State secured the doubles points with wins from partners Miko Eala and Charl Morgan on court two and Malik Bhatnagar and Alexander Karman on court three. This marked Karman's first career win. Despite singles wins from Loren Byers and Sam Bossem, it wasn't enough to take the match.

INSIDE THE VIKINGS

Cleveland State began its season dropping a 7-0 match to Michigan State. Since then, it's lost to Ball State, Xavier, and Butler.

This matchup marks the fifth time Cleveland State and Penn State will face off on the court, with Penn State boasting a 4-0 record. In the last meeting between the two programs in 2020, the Nittany Lions came away with a 4-3 win. Penn State won four of six singles matches to defeat the Vikings despite dropping the doubles point.

SCOUTING THE RAIDERS

The Colgate Raiders will kick off their 2022 campaign in this matchup at University Park.

Penn State is 2-0 all- time against the Raiders and look to continue the streak on Friday. The Nittany Lions came away with a 7-0 sweep over Colgate in their last meeting in 2018.

PREVIEWING THE BIG GREEN

Dartmouth enters Sunday's contest coming off a doubleheader sweep over the Binghamton Bearcats and the Bryant Bulldogs on Jan. 22. Their contests versus Fordham and Boston University set for Jan. 29 were postponed due to a storm.

Most recently in 2016, Penn State pulled out a 4-2 victory over the Big Green. Nittany Lion partners Christian Lutschaunig and David Kohan took down the No. 9 Dartmouth pair Dovydas Sakinis and Brendan Tannenbaum, 6-4.

UP NEXT

Penn State will continue its home stand on Friday, Feb. 11 vs. the Liberty Flames at 5 p.m. ET.
