TOP CHA SQUADS GOING AT IT…AGAIN
Just one week after taking on the then-CHA leading Mercyhurst Lakers, the Nittany Lions and Orange face off in their second series this season after splitting an away series back in November 2021. The matchup features the top two teams in the CHA standings, who are both tied with a .750 league-points earned percentage.
The Nittany Lions have seen Syracuse 41 times in their history, and though the Orange have gotten the best of PSU in the all-time series (29-5-7), the matchup has been extremely close dating back to Jan. 2020. In their last nine matchups both programs have split 4-4-1 including a split at Syracuse earlier this season, Nov. 19 and 20.
Three of the last nine matchups in the series have gone to overtime. Penn State has won two of those games, including a 1-0 battle Nov. 19 that saw Natalie Heising net the game winner in the extra period.
A LOT ON THE LINE
While the Nittany Lions will have two more CHA games to wrap up the regular season against RIT Feb. 18-19, this weekend's series against the Orange has major implications for who hosts the CHA Tournament. The league's top seed will host the postseason tournament Feb. 24-26.
