BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Four members of the Penn State track & field team competed at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships on Friday and Saturday.
Junior Evan Dorenkamp was up first, placing 12th in the men's mile with a time of 4:02.35. Dorenkamp closes out a tremendous indoor season where he set the Penn State mile record (3:55.02), recorded the fourth fastest 1000m run in program history (2:21.33) and the fifth fastest 3000m run in program history (8:01.84).
Big Ten 800m Champion Allison Johnson and Big Ten 800m silver medalist Victoria Tachinski competed in the women's 800m, with Tachinski placing 11th (2:05.39) and Johnson placing 14th (2:08.69). It wraps up a year that saw the Nittany Lions' women's 800m team ranked first in the NCAA. Johnson set the program record in the event with a time of 2:02.84. As a group, Johnson, Tachinski, Rachel Gearing and Victoria Vanriele recorded four of the top five times in program history.
Junior Mallory Kauffman represented Penn State on the second day of competition, placing tenth in the women's shot put with a throw of 16.95m. Kauffman climbed up the Penn State all-time list this year, recording the third best throw in program history at the Penn State Tune Up (17.19m).
The Nittany Lions will begin their outdoor season on March 19 at the Penn Invite in Philadelphia. The team's full outdoor schedule will be released next week.
