DURHAM, N.H. - The Penn State women's gymnastics team closed out its regular season with a season-best performance to win the Whittemore Center Quad Meet at New Hamphsire on Sunday.
The Nittany Lions 196.550 score is the team's best since the Penn State Quad Meet in February 2020, beating the previous season-high of 196.425 from their meet at Ohio State. It is also the team's best score in a road meet since the BYU Quad Meet in March 2018. Nittany Lions earned individual event victories in three out of four events.
"What a performance from each and every person today!" Head Coach Sarah Brown said. "From start to finish, the team fought so hard. They had each other's backs, they stepped up when we needed them and they put up an amazing show! We had to battle through adversity today with a five-gymnast lineup on floor and a lineup change on vault, but our team showed so much fight. I couldn't be more proud!"
The day started on bars, where fifth-year senior Alissa Bonsall opened her final regular season meet by tying her career high with a 9.950 on bars. It earned Bonsall her third event victory of the season and led the Nittany Lions to a 49.225 on the apparatus.
The Nittany Lions followed with their best performance of the season on beam, recording a 49.050 score. Competing on beam for the first time since Jan.7, Cassidy Rushlow posted Penn State's first 9.9 score on the apparatus this season. She's recorded 9.9 scores in back-to-back meets after her performance last week on bars.
The success continued onto floor, where Penn State once again reached the 49.0 mark with a Freshman Isabella Salcedo recorded her sixth 9.9 score of the season, recording a new career-high with a 9.950 score to win the event. The score ties for fifth in Penn State history. Lauren Bridgens also posted a big score in her final regular season meet, matching her season-high with a 9.925.
The team closed out its season-best performance with its fourth 49+ score of the afternoon, recording a 49.025. Jessica Johanson led the team with a 9.850 score to earn a share of the event win.
The Nittany Lions now turn their attention to postseason competition, with the Big Ten Championships scheduled for next Saturday in Columbus, Ohio.
