O’Neill Earns Big Ten Midfielder of the Week Honors

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State women's lacrosse sophomore Kristin O'Neill was tabbed Big Ten Midfielder of the Week after helping the Nittany Lions to a 14-10 win over No. 21 James Madison on Wednesday and a 17-8 win over Saint Joseph's on Saturday.

This is O'Neill's first conference Midfielder of the Week honor after she claimed Big Ten Freshman of the Week five times last season, which culminated in her earning Big Ten Freshman of the Year in 2021.

Last week, the Nittany Lions claimed two wins during their home opening week with O'Neill leading the pack as she combined for ten points on seven goals and three assists. She also tallied five draw controls, two caused turnovers and a ground ball.

She had a crucial play vs. No. 21 JMU where she caused a turnover, picked up the ground ball and sprinted down the field to score in transition. O'Neill then added insurance to the Nittany Lions' 11-10 lead over No. 21 JMU in the fourth quarter by scoring back-to-back goals to swing momentum in favor of PSU and seal the win.

On the season, the midfielder from Odenton, Maryland has 17 goals, four assists, five ground balls, five caused turnovers and 15 draw controls.

This is the second weekly award for the Nittany Lions this season after Brooke Hoss claimed Big Ten Freshman of the Week on March 1.

The Nittany Lions, led by Head Coach Missy Doherty, are 4-2 this season.

Penn State takes on Towson at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, March 15 and will return home on Saturday, March 19 to host Princeton with first draw at 1 p.m.
