JOHNS ISLAND, S.C. – The Penn State women's golf is currently sixth in the 17-team field at the Briar's Creek Invitational as the second round is has been suspended due to darkness with five holes remaining. The Nittany Lions went 6-over, 294, as a team in the opening round Monday morning and are currently 7-over for the second round.
Campbell leads the field at 7-under, a full six shots clear of second-place Michigan (1-under), while UCF and Boston College are tied for third at 9-over and Illinois rounds out the top-5 at 10-over just three strokes ahead of the Nittany Lions.
Penn State was paced by freshman Drew Nienhaus (St. Louis, Mo.) who fired a 1-under, 71, in the opening round and is currently 3-over through 13 holes of her second round and is tied for 17th at 2-over for the championship.
Junior Mathilde Delavallade (Royan, France) is currently tied for 23rd at 3-over while classmate Isha Dhruva (Katy, Texas) and senior Sarah Willis (Eaton, Ohio) are tied for 30th at 4-over for the championship. Dhruva has six holes remaining in her second round while Delavallade and Willis and three and four, respectively.
Dhruva is even-par through her first 12 holes in the second round having climbed 19 spots following a 4-over, 76, she carded in the opening round. Both Delavallade and Willis are 2-over in their second rounds after turning in scores of 1-over,73, and 2-over, 74, respectively, in the first round.
Round 2 will conclude tomorrow morning and the teams will then roll right into the final round with the exact same pairings.
