UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Six Penn State men's swimmers qualified to compete in the 2022 NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships taking place from March 23-26 at the McAuley Aquatic Center in Atlanta, Georgia.
Seniors Will Roberson, Tommy Hurley and Michael Daly, Juniors Daniel Raisanen and Lachlan Byrne and freshman Victor Baganha will be representing Penn State at nationals.
A total of 270 participants (235 swimmers and 35 divers) will compete in the championships. Swimmers qualified for the championships by meeting the established minimum time for the events in which they entered.
Each day, prelims and finals begin at 10 a.m. ET and 6 p.m. ET. On Wednesday, swimmers will only compete at 6 p.m.
Coverage:
ESPN3 will provide digital broadcast coverage for preliminary and finals sessions Wednesday through Saturday. Additionally, ESPNU will air a two-hour show at 6 p.m. Eastern time, Tuesday, April 5.
Daniel Raisanen
Raisanen will be swimming in the 100 and 200 breast at the NCAA Championships.
At the 2022 Big Ten Championships, in the 200 breast, he finished in 4th place with a time of 1:54.03, an NCAA B-cut and school record breaking time. The time he beat is 1:56.78 from 2012. Raisanen was on the 200 Medley relay team last year at NCAAs, but this is his first time qualifying individually.
Michael Daly
Daly will be swimming in the 200 IM, 400 IM and the 200 Back in the NCAA Championships. Daly leads the Nittany Lions in the backstroke events, holding this season's fastest times in the 100 (49.14) and 200 (1:45.94). Daly swam the 200 IM in 1:48.80 against Navy.
At the Big Ten Championships last month, in the 400 IM, Daly earned fourth place with a time of 3:42.49 which earned him an NCAA B-cut. This time was just short of Daly's current fastest time of 3:42.38 which he swam in 2019. In the 200 back Daly finished in 5th place with a time of 1:41.29 and made the NCAA B-cut.
Daly has qualified for NCAAs all four years of his swimming career at Penn State, and he made B finals in the 400 IM at last year's NCAAs.
Victor Baganha
Freshman Baganha will be swimming in the 50 Free, the 100 Free and the 100 Fly at the NCAA Championships.
At the Big Ten Championships, in the 100 Fly, Baganha placed fifth with a time of 45.19 and broke the school record. His time made the NCAA B-cut. He led Penn State's finalists in the 50 free. Baganha swam to 3rd place with a time of 19.18 and made an NCAA B-cut. In the 100 free he came in 8th place with a time of 42.73, an NCAA B-cut.
Relays:
At the Big Ten Championships, the Nittany Lions swam for a school record and an NCAA B-cut in the 200-medley relay with a time of 1:24.5. They placed sixth in the 400-medley relay with a time of in 3:06.36. The team contributors were Byrne, Raisanen, Baganha and Roberson. The relay team broke a school record with this time and made the NCAA B-cut. In the 200 Free relay, Penn State finished with a time of 1:17.17 and earned the NCAA B-cut.
At the 2020 NCAAs, Roberson was on the 200 Freestyle relay and earned an All-American status. In the 2021 NCAA Championships, he competed in the 200 Medley relay, the 200 Freestyle relay, the 50 Free and the 100 Free. This year he will be contributing to the relay teams.

3 Individuals:
Daly will swim in the 200 IM, 400IM and 200 back.
Raisanen will compete in the 100 and 200 Breaststroke.
Baganha will swim in the 50 Free, the 100 Free and the 100 Fly.
3 Relays:
All Penn State swimmers will be travelling as relay swimmers.
They will compete in the 200 Medley, 400 Medley and the 200 Free relay.
