Hontz Highlights First Day at Florida Relays

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Highlighted by senior Brandon Hontz's stellar 1500-meter race, the Penn State track and field teams got off to a strong start Friday at the Florida Relays.

Three Nittany Lions ran personal best times in their respective events Friday, with the bulk of competition set for Saturday.

Hontz, who made his first appearance of the outdoor season, ran a new personal best time of 3:41.67 in the men's 1500 meter, which currently ranks within the top-10 nationally. Finishing second overall in the race, his time also places him among elite company in program history, as it now stands as the sixth-fastest time by a Nittany Lion.

In the women's 1500 meter, Freshman Zoe Duffus ran a new personal best of 4:30.05, improving upon her collegiate debut in Raleigh. Senior Yasmin Brooks ran a 58.59 in the women's 400-meter hurdles, barely missing out on her personal record. 

The Nittany Lions resume action in Gainesville Saturday at noon, beginning with the prelims for the women's 100-meter hurdles.
