LEWISBURG, Pa. – Led by Thomas Bojalad, the Penn State track and field team began its three-day meet weekend at the Bison Outdoor Challenge with a strong showing in men's discus throw.
In the team's only event competition of the day, Bojalad took home the top spot with his throw of 52.73m (173-0). Senior Tyler Merkley finished right behind his teammate with a mark of 51.28m (168-3) to take second place. Duane Knisely made it three Nittany Lions to finish in the top-5 with a season best throw of 50.38m (165-3) to take fifth.
To round out the discus squad's complete team performance, Nittany Lions' throwing coach Lucais MacKay also competed, unattached, alongside his athletes. He finished in eighth place with a mark of 46.97m (154-1) and qualified for the finals. His performance comes a day after celebrating his birthday.
Competition in Lewisburg for the rest of the Nittany Lions is set to begin Friday at 1 p.m., starting with men's long jump out on the field. Action on the track begins at 1:45 p.m. when the unseeded women's 1500m is scheduled to start.
