Women's Golf Opens Play at the Lady Buckeye Invitational

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Penn State women's golf team began play completing the first 36 holes of the Lady Buckeye Invitational on Friday afternoon at the Ohio State Golf Club's Scarlet Course.

On a windy day with some gusts reaching over 25 mph along with wet course conditions the par-72, 6,319-yard course played much longer and birdies were hard to come by for the entire 10-team field. The Nittany Lions finished the day 52-over par and currently sit eighth heading into Saturday's final round.

The host Buckeyes are currently in the lead at 28-over while Illinois (32-over), Kent State (38-over), Maryland (42-over) and Michigan State (43-over) round out the top-five.

Penn State was led by senior Sarah Willis (Eaton, Ohio) who used a 3-over, 75, in the second round to climb eight spots following an opening round 6-over, 78. Willis is currently tied for 13th after 36 holes, eight strokes off the lead.

Backed by a 3-over, 75, in the opening round, junior Mathilde Delavallade (Royan, France) is tied for 15th while freshman Drew Nienhaus (St. Louis, Mo.) used a 5-over, 77, in the second round to climb nine spots and into a tie for 22nd.

Junior Isha Dhruva (Katy, Texas), senior Taylor Waller (Canonsburg, Pa.) and freshman Katie Scheck (Greensboro, Ga.) rounded out the team scoring.

Penn State will conclude the tournament with the final round of play tomorrow morning at 8:30 a.m.
