PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Penn State women's golf team concluded the opening round of the Big Ten Championships on Friday afternoon at 20-over, 304, and currently sit in 12th place after day one at Fox Chapel Golf Club.
Michigan State leads the field as the only team in red numbers at 2-under three shots clear of Michigan and Purdue in second at 1-over while Illinois and Maryland round out the top-five in a tie for fourth at 4-over.
Junior Mathilde Delavallade (Royan, France) and freshman Katie Scheck (Greensboro, Ga.) paced the team in the opening round carding rounds of 4-over, 75. Aside from a double-bogey on the third hole, Scheck shot a clean front nine, her second nine of the day.
Freshman Drew Nienhaus and senior Taylor Waller (Canonsburg, Pa.) rounded out the countable team scores with matching 77's (6-over) while junior Isha Dhruva (Katy, Texas) and senior Sarah Willis (Eaton, Ohio) concluded the opening round with scores of 8-over and 10-over, respectively.
The Nittany Lions are back in action for the second round of competition tomorrow morning with tee times beginning at 8:57 a.m.
