Men’s Tennis Falls to Wisconsin 4-0 in Last Regular Season Matchup

MADISON, Wis. – Penn State men's tennis team (13-13, 3-6 B1G) fell to the Wisconsin Badgers (12-9, 6-2 B1G) in a 4-0 result Sunday afternoon at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison, Wis.

"The wind certainly helped neutralize any advantages for Wisconsin," said associate head coach Paul Tobin. "We continue to struggle with holding onto momentum and letting big leads slip away. Some courts we were up sets, and double breaks and could just not find ways to close it out. This has been a pattern for us this whole season, and it comes down to who wants it more and who is willing to step up on the crucial points. Despite the disappointment, we were very much in all these matches. Our team is young, and they will only get better."

DOUBLES

Victories on courts one and two saw Wisconsin earn the first point of the match.

At No. 1, Malik Bhatnagar and Charl Morgan fell to Robin Parts and Sebastian Vile in a 6-3 result. The Badgers clinched the doubles point on court two when Tim Dzhurinskiy and Jared Pratt defeated Alexander Karman and Bora Sengul, 6-3.

On court three, Loren Byers and Sam Bossem were down 5-4 against Lenard Soha and Gabriel Huber when Wisconsin secured the doubles point.

SINGLES

The Badgers carried their momentum into singles play and secured their victory with wins on courts three, four, and six.

Dzhurinskiy earned Wisconsin their first singles point of the match in a 6-3, 6-4 win over Chikaya Sato giving them the 2-0 lead. Clinching the match on court four, Vile secured the match for the Badgers opposite Bhatnagar, 7-6, 6-4.
