Strong Performances from Tachinski, Martino cap off final day of Florida Relays

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Despite an extended weather delay, the Penn State track and field teams closed out the Florida Relays with a strong showing that saw two top-10 times in program history Saturday.

The Nittany Lions combined for three top-10 program finishes and multiple personal records over the course of the weekend.

After a lightning delay postponed a noon start time to 6 p.m., Victoria Tachinski and the Penn State 800 meter crew quickly made up for lost time. The indoor All-Big Ten second team selection ran a 2:04.02 in the women's 800-meter dash, which stands as the third-fastest time in program history. Her performance also set a new outdoor personal record. Sophomore Victoria Vanriele finished with a new outdoor personal best of her own, with a time of 2:06.32. Madaline Ullom and Rachel Gearing rounded out the women's group with times of 2:07.32 and 2:08.44, respectively.

Olivier Desmeules led the Nittany Lions on the men's side, finishing with a time of 1:49.15 in his official outdoor debut. Two-time indoor Big Ten champion Domenic Perretta clocked a 1:49.57 to kick off his final outdoor season by winning his heat.

In the women's 100-meter hurdles, Yasmin Brooks took third place with a time of 13.32, barely missing her personal best mark once again.

Freshman Korbin Martino continued his strong first season as a Nittany Lion, as he made his way into the program record books by running the eighth-fastest time with a 46.67 in the men's 400-meter. Fellow freshman James Onwuka finished with a time of 47.67 in his race.
