UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The No. 10 Penn State women's soccer team closes out a three-match homestand with regional foe No. 21 West Virginia on Thursday, Aug. 25. Kickoff starts at 6 p.m., and the match will be broadcast live on Big Ten Network with Dean Linke and Jackie Manny on the call.

Parking Information
Parking for all Penn State Athletics' non-football events will require a valid permit or payment of the applicable parking fee for campus lots. Fans with valid Penn State University Park parking permits will be permitted to park at non-football athletics events for free, following Transportation Services parking policies and access.

For women's soccer matches, fans are asked to park in the Jordan East, Stadium West or Porter North lots. Fans without a permit are encouraged to prepay for event parking at a discounted rate of $5.50 through ParkMobile - https://psu.parkmobile.io/. Prepayment is available through 11:59 p.m. the day prior to each event.
 
UPDATE FOR AUG. 25 MATCH: Fans can still pre-pay the $5.50 for both Thursday matches up until 11:59 p.m. Wednesday night. Fans can also pre-pay the $10 on Thursday up until 5 p.m. Beginning at 5 p.m. fans for both soccer's and the BJC event will be charged $20 cash only - with no online cheaper option other than East Deck for $1/hour due to an event in the Bryce Jordan Center.

LAST TIME OUT

  • No. 14 Penn State earned its first win of the season by shutting out Duquesne 3-0 on Sunday, Aug. 21.
  • The match marked the first shutout for PSU since Oct. 13, 2021 when the Nittany Lions beat Indiana 3-0 at Jeffrey Field.
  • Linnehan scored her 19th career goal on a cross by Wiesner.
  • True freshman White notched the second assist of her career by sending a cross to Kershner who headed the ball in for the 2-0 advantage.
  • Wasserman scored in the 70th minute to tie the game 2-2 on an assist by White.
  • Wiesner got her second assist of the match on a corner kick that connected with Cassie Hiatt to Schlegel for the 3-0 lead.
  • The goal was also a special connection between Hiatt and Schlegel who grew up together in Parker, Colorado and are teammates again after Hiatt transferred from Texas Tech to Penn State or her fifth year of eligibility.
  • The keeper tandem of Asman and Morgan Messner finished with a cleansheet. Asman saved two shots.
  • PSU out-shot the Dukes 20 to 5.
  • The Nittany Lions had 11 corner kicks and did not allow any from Duquesne.
  • The last time Penn State had at least ten corner kicks was in a 2-3 loss to Rutgers on Oct. 3, 2019.

SCOUTING WEST VIRGINIA

  • After tying Indiana 0-0 and beating Saint Joseph's 5-1, the Mountaineers are ranked No. 21 in the United Soccer Coaches Poll.
  • Five different Mountaineers scored against Saint Joseph's on Sunday. For three players, the goals were their first as Mountaineers.
  • Sophomore Dilary Heredia-Beltran leads the team with a pair of assists.
  • Senior keeper Kayza Massey was in goal for both matches and has tallied five saves.

PENN STATE AGAINST WEST VIRGINIA

  • This match will be the 21st overall between WVU and PSU.
  • Penn State leads the series 10-7-3 versus WVU dating back to 2003.
  • The two sides have faced each other five times in the NCAA Tournament with PSU going 3-2 in those matches and outscoring the Mountaineers 11-6.
  • In 2015, No. 6 PSU defeated No. 4 WVU in the Elite Eight 2-0 to clinch a spot in the College Cup on the Nittany Lions' way to the national championship title.
  • PSU and WVU have both been ranked facing one another in 17 of their 21 total contests and for the past 10 of 11 seasons dating back to 2012.
  • Four of the matches have gone into overtime with the last happening in in 2016 resulting in a 1-1 tie.
  • In their last matchup on Sept. 2, 2021, No. 7 PSU won 2-0 over No. 13 WVU. Ellie Wheeler scored what would be the game-winner. Asman had six saves in the clean sheet performance.

NEXT TIME OUT

  • The Nittany Lions embark on a three-match road stand beginning on Sunday, Aug. 28 at Monmouth before heading to the West Coast to take on Stanford on Sept. 1 and Santa Clara on Sept. 4.
