Men’s Rugby Fall to Queens in Season Opener

University Park, PA – Penn State Men's Rugby opened conference play this past weekend with a trip to newcomer, Queens University. In the pouring rain the Men's Rugby team fell short, 27-10.

The match started off well for the Penn State Lions, after several phases team captain Dalton Musselman crashed over the line for the first try of the match and converted to go ahead 7-0.

Queens responded with a try of their own off a well worked set piece move and tied the match 7-7, 8 minutes in. Two minutes later they struck again scoring in the corner and going ahead 12-7.

The Lions gained some composure and through sustained pressure were able to force a penalty and close the gap 12-10 off a Dalton Musselman penalty.

Unfortunately, from there it was all The Royals. Some uncharacteristic errors led to turnovers and points. Queens would score 15 unanswered points and take the 1st round match-up, 27-10.

Penn State's 2nd Team had a strong performance defeating Queens JV 24-22, with several players playing their first game of rugby for Penn State.

The team will regather this week as we host our first home match in 10 Months and take on PA rival Kutztown at 12:00pm Saturday, 17 September on West Campus Fields.
