ROSEMONT, Ill. – Sophomore Ryan Kirwan (DeWitt, N.Y.) was named the B1G Hockey Third Star of the Week following his five-point weekend against Canisius as announced by the league office Tuesday afternoon.

Kirwan paced Penn State on offense with three goals and two assists for five points while registering a plus-6 rating against the Griffs. The sophomore registered back-to-back multi-point efforts to open the season scoring once while adding an assist on Friday night before tallying a career-best three points on two goals and one assist on Saturday.

Kirwan, who earns his second career weekly honor, tallied one of his three goals on the man-advantage as he helped the Nittany Lion unit go 50 percent over the two games to open the season.

The DeWitt, New York native is currently tied for second in the Big Ten and fifth in the nation with his five points while his three goals are also good for second in the conference and tied for fourth nationally. He now has eight multi-point games in his career and three multi-goal games to his credit.

Kirwan's line with senior's Kevin Wall (Penfield, N.Y.) and Ture Linden (Great Falls, Va.) combined for six goals and 15 points while registering a plus-18 rating as a unit over the weekend. Kirwan, Wall and Linden are each tied for the national lead in plus/minus at plus-6.
