Nittany Lion Fencing Teams Host Annual Nittany Lion Cup Open This Weekend

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Penn State men's and women's fencing teams will have their 2022-23 home opener this weekend, October 15-16, with the Nittany Lion Cup Open. This two-day exhibition event will take place at the White Building. The mixed events will be held on Saturday, leaving the women's events for Sunday. 

Representing Penn State in the women's epee will be Axelle Wasiak, Sophie Goldberg, Nirali Igoe, Yi Jin, Vama Maniar, Grace Baranosky and Kateryna Chorniy. All seven women will also participate in the mixed epee portion of the event. 

Claire Haas, Halah Keramane, Ariel Ratsep, Grace Seal, and Samantha Catantan will compete in the women's foil. Halah Keramane and Grace Seal will participate in the mixed foil portion of the event as well. 

Competing for Penn State in women's sabre will be Amelia Baker and Mia Novick. Alexa Horan, Tian-Ya Jen and Ola Strzalkowski will participate in both the women's sabre and mixed sabre events. 

The mixed epee event will feature Mitchel Bekker, Nicholas Glaz, Sultan Hassan, Vasil Ivakimov, Peter Kambeseles, Stafford Moosekian, Jonathan Piskovatskov, Noe Sitbon-Taylor, Zachary Suico, Devin Tafoya and Tingway Xu. 

Arwen Borowiak, Caiden Cannon, Pablo Giraldo, Aidan Johnson, Donavyn Martinex, Ignacio McGoff and Konner Paik will compete in mixed foil with Amelia Baker, Fernando Chacon, Clement Perrier, Neil Lilov and Nicholaus Zielinski for mixed sabre. 

Late registration for any fencers interested in participating will remain open until October 16th.

Penn State will be on the road again in two weeks when the Nittany Lions travel to Philadelphia for the Temple Open. The event will take place on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 29-30.
