#12/12 Women's Ice Hockey Welcomes Brown Sunday

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.-  TheNo. 12/12 Penn State women's ice hockey team welcomes Brown for a two-game series beginning Sunday at 6 p.m.

HOME ICE ADVANTAGE

  • Brown will be the third non-conference opponent that Penn State has faced at home this season. They are 3-3 in these matchups. 

HISTORY

  • Last season's series between Brown and Penn State was the first time the two teams faced each other. Penn State won one game and tied the other making them 1-0-1 all-time versus the Bears. 

YOUNG POWER

  • Brown features a younger group this season carrying five freshman on their roster while Penn State features six freshman. For Brown, the freshman class has combined for four goals and three assists through five games. For Penn State, the freshman class has combined for 12 goals and 19 assists through 14 games. 

SPECIAL TEAMS IS SPECIAL

  • The Nittany Lions penalty kill ranks eighth in the nation with a .898 kill percentage. Brown is sixth in the nation with a.909 kill percentage.
  • Penn State also ranks fifteenth in the nation in power-play percentage with a .188 success percentage. Brown on the other hand is seventeenth with a .176 success percentage.
  • The Nittany Lions have scored nine power-play goals through 14 games which ranks fifth in the nation.

HOME COMING

  • Bears forward Jess Ciarrocchi returns to Happy Valley for the first time since transferring to Brown after two seasons with the Nittany Lions.
  • In Happy Valley, Ciarrocchi played 43 games and tallied three goals and six assists. This season for Brown, the junior has four assist and is second on the team in points with four. She also carries a plus two rating which leads the Bears.

BUTZE TOP OF THE WEEK

  • Freshman defender Kendall Butze was honored with the CHA Rookie of the Week Award after a three-assist weekend against Mercyhurst.
  • Butze was solid on the defensive end as well, working the breakout and stepping into passing lanes.
  • Butze joins fellow freshman Tessa Janecke as the only two Nittany Lions to win CHA Rookie of the Week honors this season. Janecke has won the award twice and added CHA Rookie of the Month to her portfolio.
  • Last season, freshman defender Karley Garcia also earned the award of CHA Rookie of the Week.

  • Parking for Penn State Women's Ice Hockey games at Pegula Ice Arena will be available at the following locations beginning two hours prior to the start of each game:

  • No charge with a valid Penn State parking pass
