UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State Nittany Lion field hockey player Gery Schnarrs, a junior from Camp Hill, Pa., is the recipient of the Elite 90 Award for the 2022 NCAA Division I Field Hockey Championship.
Schnarrs, majoring in Biology, carries a 4.0 GPA. Schnarrs was presented with the award during the field hockey banquet on Thursday evening, Nov. 17, a day before the start of the NCAA semifinals at the University of Connecticut. Schnarrs has been a starter for 2022 Big Ten Co-Champion Penn State all season long, helping to anchor the Penn State defense. She was a 2021 NFHCA Scholar of Distinction and a member of the 2021 NFHCA All-Academic Team. Schnarrs is the 26th Penn Stater to receive the honor.
The Elite 90, an award founded by the NCAA, recognizes the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the national championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers. The Elite 90 is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA's championships.
Eligible student-athletes are sophomores or above academically who have participated in a sport for at least two years with their school. All ties are broken by the number of credits completed.

Penn State will take on North Carolina tomorrow at 12 p.m. in the first of two NCAA semifinal games being played in Storrs, Conn. The NCAA title game is set for Sunday at 1:30 p.m., featuring the two winners of Friday's semifinal contests.
