Women’s Basketball Dominates Bryant at Home, 96-33

UNIVERSITY PARK – Penn State women's basketball (3-0) beat Bryant (2-2) Friday night at Bryce Jordan Center. Alexa Williamson notched 20 points on 9-13 shooting from the field and a pair of free throws along with four rebounds to lead the Lady Lions to the fourth biggest margin of victory at Bryce Jordan Center.
 
Penn State never trailed in the game and outscored Bryant by double-digits in each quarter. The biggest margin came in the first (28-7) with Williamson contributing 10 points. The Lady Lions ended the quarter with a 20-3 run that featured five scorers: Chanaya Pinto, Taniyah Thompson, Makenna Marisa, Williamson and Leilani Kapinus.
 
The Lady Lions ended with 51 points in the first half. Penn State shot 54.1% (20-37) from the field in the half.
 
Penn State limited Bryant to just three points in the third quarter, a jumper and one free throw. Nine different Lady Lions contributed buckets as part of a 22-point quarter.
 
The bench of Penn State continued the dominant performance, outscoring Bryant 23-11 in the fourth quarter. Ivane Tensaie capped off the efficient team scoring with a three-pointer, her first as a Lady Lion.
 
NOTES

  • Marisa recorded her 61st double-digit scoring game, including 33-straight dating back to the start of last season.
  • She went 6-8 from the field, including 3-5 from three, and had five steals and two boards.
  • Ali Brigham had her first double-digit scoring performance of the season, finishing with 11 points and eight rebounds (five offensive).
  • Leilani Kapinus garnered her third-straight double-digit scoring game, recording 10 on 5-7 shooting from the field as well as seven rebounds, four assists and three steals.
  • Johnasia Cash finished just two points shy of a double-double with eight points and 11 boards in just 13 minutes of play.
  • Shay Ciezki had a game-high plus/minus of 42, six points, four assists and four steals.
  • With no turnovers this game, the freshman has recorded just three in 81 minutes of action compared to eight assists.
  • The Lady Lions extended their non-conference home-winning streak to 13 games, the fourth-longest in school history (12/0/91-2/16/93).
  • Penn State had a decisive advantage in turnovers (17-33), points off turnovers (48-14), rebounding (55-22), second chance points (23-2), points in the paint (58-14), fast break points (37-8) and bench points (43-20).
  • Aicha Dia recorded her first collegiate field goal in the third quarter off a pass from Pinto.
