UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State women's volleyball head coach Katie Schumacher-Cawley announced Thursday the addition of transfer Kashauna Williams to the Nittany Lions' 2022 roster. Williams, a 6-0 outside hitter from Los Angeles, California, comes to Happy Valley after earning two All-Big West honors at Long Beach State.
"Kash is a tremendous athlete who is extremely motivated to be great," Schumacher-Cawley said. "She is extremely hardworking and a very nice person. I'm thrilled that she decided to join our Penn State family!"
Williams totaled 1,181 kills during her three seasons at Long Beach State, averaging 3.58 kills/set over 330 sets played. During the 2021 season, she ranked first in the Big West in total kills (452), kills/set (4.04) and total points (496). She totaled 20-plus kills in a match six times, including a season-high 25 in a five-set win over Montana State. She had big matches against UC San Diego with 23 kills on .410 hitting in a four-set win and Gonzaga with 22 kills on .500 hitting in a five-set win.
After landing a spot on the Big West All-Freshman Team in 2018, Williams received first team All-Big West recognition as a sophomore in 2019 and again as a junior in 2021. The Beach did not compete during the 2020 season.
Williams was an AVCA Pacific South All-Region Honorable Mention selection this past season. She became the first Long Beach State women's volleyball player to earn the honor since 2016.
