Former Nittany Lion Great Quentin Wright Inducted Into PWCA Hall of Fame

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. (Release courtesy of Norm Palovcsik, PWCA) -- On Saturday, May 21, 2022, the Executive Board of the Pennsylvania Wrestling Coaches Association held its annual spring meeting to discuss important wrestling-related topics including the balloting for the Hall of Fame, Class of 2022. Former Nittany Lion great Quentin Wright will be part of the Class of 2022.

In addition, the PWCA Executive Committee will be honoring this year's 2022 PIAA Coaches of Year in Class AAA and AA as well as the Assistant and Junior High Coaches of the Year. The 2022 Induction Ceremonies will allow for full attendance for family, friends, teammates, etc. The Ceremonies will be held on Sunday, October 16th at the Mountainview Country Club in Boalsburg, Pennsylvania (located seven miles southwest of State College). 

Quentin Wright (Wrestler – District 6) - Quentin Wright was a 2008 graduate of Bald Eagle Area High School and a 2013 graduate of Penn State University.  While competing for BEA, Quentin was a four-time state qualifier, a three-time state finalist and won the PIAA Class AAA state championships in 2007 and 2008.  In 2006, Wright advanced to the 145-pound state finals, but dropped an 8-5 decision to Nazareth's Tim Darling.  In 2007, Wright became Bald Eagle Area's 8th state champion in school history with a win in the state semifinals before topping Canon-McMillan's Matt Ryan in the Class AAA 160-lb. state finals, 6-3.  He repeated as state champion in 2008 by beating Jersey Shore's Joe Loffredo in 2:28 of the 171-pound title bout.  He completed his scholastic career with a 154-14 won-loss record. Wright was selected to represent Pennsylvania at 171 pounds in the 2008 Pittsburgh Wrestling Classic, defeating USA's Chris Spangler, 9-4.  His success extended to the national level as well. Perhaps most notably, Wright won FILA Junior Nationals in Freestyle championship and was second in Greco. He represented Team USA on the Junior World team and brought home a bronze medal in 2008.At Penn State, Quentin was a standout performer for head coach Cael Sanderson.  He was a three-time NCAA finalist, winning titles in 2011 and 2013.  He was a four-time All-American at Penn State and he completed his collegiate career with a 116-23 record.
