PHOENIX, Ariz. – The Penn State women's golf team fired its low round of the tournament on Monday with a 1-under, 287, however they were unable to climb the leaderboard finishing the week 10th in the 14-team field at 7-over, 871.
"Conditions today were open to low numbers if teams got "hot", which some did," commented head coach Denise St. Pierre. "We may have pressed a bit and that can sometimes be tough. So, unfortunately, it just wasn't in the cards today."
Nebraska topped the field at 21-under for the week following an 11-under final round while Ohio State went 12-under on the day to finish the week in second at 14-under. Denver (10-under), Kansas (5-under) and Rutgers (3-under) rounded out the top-five.
Senior Mathilde Delavallade (Royan, France) saved her best round of the week for Monday, a 2-under, 70, to finish 2-under overall and in a tie for 17th, her fifth top-20 finish this season.
Senior Taylor Waller (Canonsburg, Pa.) also carded red numbers with a 1-under, 71, as she went out with a bogey-free, 3-under, 33, after beginning her day on the 10th hole, she gave a few up coming in on the front, but was able to move up 10 spots and into the top-50 at T-49.
Senior classmates Sarah Willis (Eaton, Ohio) and Isha Dhruva (Katy, Texas) rounded out the countable team scores for the final round with matching 73's, 1-over. Willis finished the week tied for 29th at 2-over while Dhruva finished the week 3-over and tied for 33rd.
Sophomore classmates Drew Nienhaus (St. Louis, Mo.) and Michelle Cox (Allentown, Pa.) round out the scoring with rounds of 5-over and 3-over, respectively.
The Nittany Lions head down to Jacksonville for the UNF Collegiate next week with 36 holes on Monday followed by a final 18 on Tuesday.
