Women’s Tennis Hits the Road to Compete Against Marshall and West Virginia

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State women's tennis team (2-3) is to conclude their three-week road trip against Marshall (3-0) on Saturday, Feb. 4 at noon and West Virginia (2-1) on Sunday, Feb. 5 at noon E.T.

LAST TIME OUT 
 
The Nittany Lions blanked Harvard, 7-0, on Jan. 28. Penn State's Yvonne Zuffova claimed a 7-6 (7-3), 4-6, 10-6 win over Maxi Duncan at the No. 2 singles position. Zuffova also obtained a doubles win with partner Alexandra Nielsen over Sany Gawande and Angel You, 6-1. 
 
The Blue and White ended their weekend in Baton Rouge, La. with a 5-2 loss against LSU. The Tigers claimed the doubles point and won on four of the six singles courts to take the match. 
 
Ioana Gheorghita and Olivia Dorner gave Penn State its two points win their singles wins. Gheroghita defeated Nina Geissler, 6-3, 7-5. Dorner won her match versus Maggie Cubitt, 1-6, 6-3, 6-2. 
 
THINKING ABOUT THE THUNDERING HERD
 
The Marshall women's tennis team has started out their season with three straight wins. Most recently, the Thundering Herd defeated the University of Charleston, 7-0, and Bellarmine, 6-1, in a double-header on Friday, Jan. 27.
 
MAPPING OUT THE MOUNTAINEERS 
 
The West Virginia women's tennis team has two consecutive wins under their belt. The Mountaineers most recently won their match over Indiana, 4-3. 
 
The last time the Nittany Lions faced the Mountaineers Penn State won, 5-2. 
 
UP NEXT
 
The Nittany Lions return to Happy Valley for a double-header on Feb. 11 to compete against Kentucky at 10 a.m. and Saint Francis at 5 p.m. E.T.
