Women's Lacrosse Welcomes Towson on Tuesday

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA.- Penn State women's lacrosse returns to Panzer to host Towson on Tuesday, March 14. First draw is set for 3 p.m. in Happy Valley. The Nittany Lions look to maintain an undefeated home streak against the Tigers in Happy Valley.
 
Penn State made its return to the rankings this week at 25 nationally and first in the Big Ten.

GAME PROMOTION

  • Tuesday will be Penn State's Hair Havoc dedication game. Game Hair Havoc is an online fundraising campaign that empowers athletes to style their game hair during their season in an effort to raise awareness and funds for families overcome by cancer.

LAST TIME OUT

  • Penn State won its first conference game of the season, 9-7, in a neutral site meeting against No. 17 Rutgers.
  • Junior Kristin O'Neill scored her fifth hat trick of the season and continued an 11-game scoring streak with her five goals on Saturday.
  • Ashley Bowan made nine crucial saves in goal including four off of free position shots.
  • Ellie Hollin scored her first goal of the season and posted four ground ball pick-ups and a personal best four caused turnovers.
  • The Nittany Lions caused 16 Rutgers turnovers and outshot the Scarlet Knights 29-20. 

NITTANY LIONS IN THE RANKS

  • Penn State ranks first in the Big Ten in caused turnovers (80) and sixth nationally. It also ranks ranks fourth in the country in scoring defense (7) and 14th in ground balls (133).
  • The Nittany Lions are second in the conference in shots on goal per game (23.86). 
  • Sammy Dupcak ranks 15th nationally in caused turnovers per game (2) and third in the Big Ten. She leads the team in ground balls and ranks second in the conference (20). 
  • Kristin O'Neill is 20th in the country in goals (23) and fourth in the Big Ten.
  • Kayla Abernathy ranks fifth in the conference in draw controls (35).

PENN STATE –TOWSON SERIES

  • The Nittany Lions lead the all-time series against the Tigers 11-1.
  • Penn State is on a three-game win streak against Towson, winning its most recent match up 15-6 in 2022.
  • The Nittany Lions are 5-0 in home games against the Tigers.

SCOUTING THE TIGERS

  • Towson is 4-2 this season with wins against Central Michigan, Arizona State, Georgetown and Mount St. Mary's.
  • The Tigers ranks third in the Colonial Athletic Association.
  • Sophomore Milana Zizakovic leads the offense with 16 goals and 25 points.

NITTANY LIONS TO WATCH

  • O'Neill, Dupcak and Ellie Hollin were named Big Ten Players to Watch in the preseason.
  • O'Neill was also named to The Tewaaraton Award Watch List and selected by Inside Lacrosse as a Top 100 Returning Player at the start of this season.
  • Freshmen Erika Ho, Maggie Golder and Emma Kelly were placed on Inside Lacrosse's Power Top 100 Freshman List.
  • Elise Smigiel joins Penn State as a sophomore transfer from Marquette.  

2023 CAPTAINS

  • Head coach Missy Doherty named seniors Rachel Spilker and Regan Nealon and junior Kristin O'Neill as captains for the 2023 season.
  • This is Spilker's second season as a co-captain for the Nittany Lions.

  • Tickets are free, walk-ups only.
  • Parking for all Penn State Athletics' non-football events will require a valid permit or payment of the applicable parking fee for campus lots. Fans with valid Penn State University Park parking permits will be permitted to park at non-football athletics events for free, following Transportation Services parking policies and access.
  • For women's lacrosse games, fans are asked to park in the Jordan East, Stadium West or Porter North lots. Fans without a permit are encouraged to prepay for event parking at a discounted rate of $5.50 through ParkMobile - https://psu.parkmobile.io/. Prepayment is available through 11:59 p.m. the day prior to each event. Event day parking will be $10 per vehicle and is cash only/can be purchased on the ParkMobile app. The East Deck is also available for most events for $1 per hour.
