UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State men's and women's fencing teams qualified seven fencers for the 2023 NCAA national championships. The NCAA championships will be held in Cameron Indoor Stadium at Duke University in Durham, N.C. March 23-26. Penn State will have fencers competing in all six weapons.
The tournament will begin at 9 a.m. on March 23 with rounds 1-3 of men's epee. Men's foil rounds 1-3 will begin at 11 a.m. with men's sabre rounds 1-3 set to conclude the day at 1:30 p.m.
On Friday, the men will continue with rounds 4-5 of all three weapons at 9 a.m. Semifinals and finals will begin at 1:30 p.m.
The women will follow the same exact schedule through Saturday and Sunday, with semifinals and finals commencing at 1:30 p.m. Sunday.
Arwen Borowiak and Aidan Johnson will be competing in men's foil, Ryan Griffiths in men's epee and Clement Perrier in men's sabre.
For the women's side, Kateryna Chorniy will fence epee with Samantha Catantan in foil and Ola Strzalkowski in sabre.
"We didn't qualify as many as we had hoped for, but we're excited nonetheless to go to Duke and watch our team compete with the best fencers in the United States. Competing at NCAA championships is always an honor because each season presents different challenges and obstacles. Now it's just about competing and bringing some more hardware back home to State College," said senior captain Ryan Griffiths, two-time All-American and 2021 NCAA champion.
