MINNEAPOLIS – Penn State swimmer Victor Baganha flew through the men's 100 Fly during the preliminary races this morning, finishing ninth overall at 44.75 at the Men's Swimming & Diving NCAA Championships at the Jean K. Aquatic Center.
Baganha's preliminary time sprints up the record books for the men's 100 Fly, once again claiming first overall in program history where he previously held the top finish at 45.18 from last season. Prior to Baganha's finish on Friday, Eugene Botes was the last recorded Nittany Lion to have qualified for the men's 100 fly at NCAA Championships. Botes raced in 2003 at 47.01 to finish 10th overall in the finals.
In the final races, Baganha touched 13th at 45.04 seconds to take home four points for the Nittany Lions. Another record finish for the sophomore, his final race landed him a second overall top-times finish in the program history.
