Penn State Swimmer Victor Baganha’s Lifetime Best Performances at the NCAA Championships

MINNEAPOLIS – Penn State men's swimmer Victor Baganha sprinted to lifetime bests in the 100 Fly and 50 and 100 Frees as he represented the Nittany Lions during the Men's Swimming & Diving NCAA Championships Thursday to Saturday at the Jean K. Aquatic Center.

"Victor (Baganha) has done an exceptional job competing and representing Penn State at NCAA's this week," Penn State head coach Tim Murphy said. "Three best times. Finishing 26th in the 100 Free, 19th in the 50 Free and earning All-American status swimming in the consolation heat of the 100 Fly in 13th place. Well done and well-deserved, Victor."

100 Free:
Baganha concluded this year's national championships Saturday morning with 26th place in the 100 Free, setting a new personal best and Penn State's second-fastest time in history (42.39).

100 Fly:
Flying through Friday's prelims, Baganha qualified for the evening session in the 100 Fly with a school record (44.75). Finishing 13th overall (45.04), he became the first Nittany Lion since Eugene Botes's 10th place performance in 2003 to swim in finals at an NCAA Championships and earn All-American honors in the event.

50 Free:
Thursday morning, the sophomore sprinted to 19th in the 50 Free. Baganha's preliminary time, 19.10, is a personal best and Penn State's third-fastest in history.

Baganha's appearance at the 2023 NCAA Championships marks the second of his career. With each national championship he's swam, the sophomore clocked best time in every event.
