No. 59 Women’s Tennis Falls to No. 58 Iowa in 4-3 Nail-Biter

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State women's tennis team (10-10) dropped a hard-fought home match to the Iowa Hawkeyes (8-8) at tarni Tennis Center on Friday afternoon.  

DOUBLES 

Iowa earned the doubles point with wins on courts two and three.  

Yvonne Zuffova and Alexandra Nielsen fell to Marisa Schmidt and Daianne Hayashida 6-3, before Ioana Gheorghita and Alina Lebedeva were defeated by Barbora Pokoma and Pia Kranholdt in a 6-4 contest. 

Sofiya Chekhlystova and Carla Girbau went 4-3, unfinished across from Samantha Mannix and Vipasha Mehra on court one. 

SINGLES 

Olivia Dorner grabbed the equalizer and first singles point of the match for Penn State in a 6-3, 6-0 decision on No. 5. Chekhlystova followed that up with a 62, 6-1 victory over Samnthat Mannix on court one.  

Zuffova fell to Schmidt 6-2, 6-4 on No. 2, before Gheorghita lost 6-0, 7-5 to Hayashida. Karly Friedland made the match 3-3 on court six as she took down Kranholdt 6-4, 4-6, 6-3. The Hawkeyes clinched the match on court four as Girbau fell to Mehra, 6-4, 6-7(5), 6-2.
