Men’s Gymnastics Hosts 2023 NCAA Championships Friday and Saturday at Rec Hall

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA.- Penn State men's gymnastics is set to host the 2023 NCAA Championships at Rec Hall on Friday, April 14 and Saturday, April 15.
 
There will be two qualifying sessions on Friday at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. Six teams will compete in each session and the top three squads from both will advance to the finals on Saturday. Penn State will compete in the second session on Friday evening. 
 
The top three all-around competitors, not on an advancing team, plus the top three individuals in each event not already advancing with their team or in the all-around competition will also compete on Saturday, April 15. The NCAA team, individual and all-around finals will take place at 6 p.m. in Rec Hall on Saturday.

Penn State is ranked sixth in the Road to Nationals rankings this week as well as fourth in the Big Ten.

LAST TIME OUT

  • Penn State men's gymnastics earned second place at the Big Ten Championships in Columbus, Ohio on March 31 with its team score of 410.700. This was the team's highest score of the season.
  • The Nittany Lions sent seven gymnasts to the individual event finals on Saturday. 
  • Josh Karnes is the Big Ten Parallel Bars Champion. He also earned fourth on floor.
  • Matt Cormier medaled on floor with a second-place finish. 
  • Karnes and Cormier earned first team All-Big Ten. 
  • Chase Clingman earned second-place finish on pommel horse to land on second team All-Big Ten.

 
PENN STATE IN THE 2022 NCAA CHAMPIONSHIP

  • Clingman was the 2022 National Pommel Horse Champion.
  • Eight Penn State gymnasts advanced to event finals: Clingman, Cormier, Karnes, Michael Artlip, Ethan Dick and Nate Warren
  • Michael Jaroh competed in the all-around finals.
  • Penn State placed fourth out of the six teams in its session in 2022.
